Art Card: Pokémon Trading Card Game Logo and FAQ Series Setup Logo
Narrator says: Welcome to the start of your first game. Let’s get set up. Start by greeting your opponent and wishing them good luck, then decide who goes first. We recommend a coin flip, but you can also decide by playing rock-paper-scissors.
Flame cut scene. An outline of a player is seen across a table with the text "HELLO!" and "GOOD LUCK!" displayed on screen. After that a coin is shown as well as hand symbols for rock, paper and scissors.
Narrator continues saying: The winner decides which player goes first. Now shuffle your deck and draw the top 7 cards. You’ll need a Basic Pokémon card in your hand to start.
The coin moves to be placed in the center of the Pokémon Trading Card Board. Both players decks shuffle and then 7 cards are drawn and shown to represent the players hand. A Charmander card is brought to focus, with the "Basic" designation in the top left corner highlighted.
Narrator says: Sometimes you might need to mulligan, which happens when you have no Basic Pokémon to start the game. If that happens, be sure to check out the Mulligan video in this series.
7 new cards are displayed, and the text "MULLIGAN" is shown to represent that no Basic Pokémon are included in the hand shown.
Narrator continues: When you have a Basic Pokémon, place it face down in the Active Spot of the playmat. This will add to the element of surprise when you face off against the other player. If you have more than one Basic Pokémon, you can place up to 5 of them face down on your Bench.
Flame cut scene. Camera cuts back to players hand with Charmander and the Charmander card is placed face down in the center of the board at the same time the opposing player puts a card face down. The text "ACTIVE POKEMON" is displayed. The players remaining 6 cards in their hand are shown and they then play the additional 2 Basic Pokémon cards they had, Kangaskhan and Salandit, on their bench. 4 Fire energy cards remain in their hand.
Narrator says: Finally, put the top 6 cards of your deck face down as Prize cards on the left, without looking at them. These will help keep score as you battle. Once both players have done this, turn over your Active and Benched Pokémon, and you’re ready to start the game!
6 cards are placed face down in the Prize Card section on the left side of the board, the text "PRIZE CARDS" is displayed. Camera zooms back out to show the whole board and both players face down cards are flipped over to show Charmander and Tauros cards being played, as well as the Kangaskhan and Salandit cards on the player's bench.
Camera zooms out and Art Card is displayed with Pokémon Trading Card Game Logo and FAQ Series Setup Logo.
