Streaming video services are convenient for watching movies and TV shows. But if you don't have a smart TV, you're usually stuck watching on your computer or mobile device. Adding a media streamer like the Roku 3 will let you watch your favorite content on any high definition television.
Setting up your Roku 3 only takes a few minutes. The Roku does require an additional HDMI cable which isn't included in the box. After you've connected your Roku 3 to your television, plug in the power adapter and switch your TV's input until you see the Roku welcome screen. Use the Roku remote to complete the guided set up that helps you connect to your Wi-Fi network, download any necessary software updates, and create a Roku account.
When you create your Roku account, you're asked to enter a credit card number, but you're only charged if you rent or buy movies on demand. You can even set up your own parental control password that has to be entered to download content.
Your Roku home screen will be preloaded with lots of different channels that let you stream video, listen to music, watch the news, or even play games. You can add more channels using the Roku channel store. One unique feature of the Roku 3 is the headphone jack on the side of the remote. Plug in any pair of headphones, and the TV speakers are automatically muted and the audio will play through your headphones. Perfect for late night viewing.
